The
desire to travel and to
learn about foreign
cultures took Gitz-Johansen far away
from his home in
Denmark. Besides the Nordic
countries he was
also interested in
countries around the
Mediterranean Sea with
their ancient cultures.
Although these visits
did not influence
Gitz's work in the same
way the Arctic regions
did, he found new
inspirations from them.
